Cataract Surgery
Just like glasses and contact lenses must be changed once they wear out, so too we are all born with lenses in our eyes that opacify with time & season. Cataract formation is driven by UV exposure so we find more severe cataracts in folks who spend time outside; like surfers or those who live at high altitude–where more UV light can get through a thinner atmosphere.
Cataract surgery is a simple procedure in which we vacuum out natural lenses that have grown cloudy & replace them with carefully selected acrylic intraocular lenses custom designed to correct your vision at distance and near without glasses. Cataract surgery is often life changing. For the first time in their lives, nearsighted folks are able to see far without glasses & far sighted patients can see up close without correction!
Cornea
Conditions like keratoconus, post-LASIK corneal ectasia, Fuchs Endothelial Dystrophy, and other diseases can thin your cornea or cause it to opacify, leading to vision loss. Crosslinking strengthens your cornea to facilitate safe vision correction and corneal transplants can correct any structural issues that may be interfering with your ability to see clearly. After your transplant you often become a candidate for vision correction even if you were not with your native cornea. Jorawer Singh, M.D./M.S. the visionary behind Singh Vision.
Dr. Singh is a fellowship trained, cornea, cataract, and refractive surgeon. He previously served as a professor on faculty at New York University and Albany Medical Center before returning to Virginia to found Singh Vision. Dr. Singh now trains ophthalmology residents at Georgetown University in advanced techniques like intraocular lens exchange, corneal transplants, and scleral sutured lenses, Dr. Singh also pursues a lifelong mission to enhance lives through vision correction at home and abroad; spending an average of 1 month a year on mission trips in developing countries.
