Refractive Cataract Surgery

If you’ve been diagnosed with visually significant cataracts, don’t be glum! You are not alone! A lifetime of UV light exposure from the sun & other sources drives cataract formation in 100% of the human race over time.

Of all the drawbacks aging brings, cataract surgery is a unique opportunity to buck the trend! With 1 procedure, you can eliminate your need to wear readers, bifocals, or trifocals and secure perfect vision for decades!

“I am amazed at how much better I can see after I had Cataract Surgery at Singh Vision. I'd do it again without hesitation. I regret I waited quite so long to commit to the procedure.”

How it works.

Modern cataract surgery is very refined. For starters we now complete about 75% of the case using a femtosecond laser, the same device used to create LASIK flaps. To do cataract surgery manually takes 10-15 minutes and has a safety margin of ~95%. The Femto Laser achieves much of the same process in 10-15 secondsand has a safety margin closer to 99%. Of course there is alway a chance that complications may happen and nothing can ever be 100% safe…but 99% is pretty good!

Specifically, the femtosecond laser is used to make the primary self sealing 2.2 mm incision, allowing for “bladeless surgery” & in 4-5 seconds it dices up the crystalline lens you were born with into tiny cubes that can then simply be vacuumed out before a clear new intraocular lens is unfolded in its place. The new lens replaces the original, settling into the same position just like new glasses lenses fit an old frame exactly. No sutures are used and the whole process takes just 10-15 minutes.

Medical insurances pay for manual cataract surgery, a basic intraocular lens, and new glasses. But if you want Femtosecond Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery and premium intraocular lenses that correct astigmatism and provide clear vision at distance and near; that will be an out of pocket cost even if you have great insurance. The basic intraocular lens + glasses combo is a great option if you have severely constrained finances, but gaining lifetime glasses independence is an investment you’ll never question. Intraocular lenses last multiple lifetimes without degrading, but you can have cataract surgery only once! Don’t miss your opportunity to get perfect vision at distance and near.

Got questions? We've got answers.

Does insurance cover cataract surgery?

We check your insurance to confirm coverage before surgery but cataract surgery is usually covered. If you choose vision correction also, then you must pay for that part of the costs.

How long does it take to recover from cataract surgery?

You can resume your activities the day after surgery but you must refrain from vigorous activities for a few days and delay swimming for a couple weeks; just to be on the safe side.

When should you have cataracts removed?

If your cataracts are starting to affect your normal activities such as night driving, seeing television or reading; you should consider having cataract surgery.

What if I don't get surgery?

Left alone, cataracts in time cause blindness. But there is no need to delay surgery; waiting makes surgery progressively more difficult. Besides, you’ll be busy loving your new vision!

Can I watch TV after surgery?

The best thing to do after cataract surgery is to rest at home with your eyes closed. TV watching, reading, or other relaxing activities can be resumed day or two later.

What is the first sign of cataracts?

Cataracts cause glare & halos at night, blurry vision, difficulty getting the right pair of glasses. If you’re having these symptoms there is no need to delay surgery further.
