How it works.
Modern cataract surgery is very refined and now uses the LASIK laser to perform most of it. Manual cataract surgery takes 10-15 minutes and has a 95% safety margin. Femtosecond Lasers do most of the same steps in 10-15 sec!
Specifically, the femtosecond laser makes a self sealing 2.2 mm incision, allowing for “bladeless surgery”. In 4-5 seconds it dices up the crystalline lens you were born with into cubes that can be vacuumed out before a new intraocular lens is unfolded in its place to replace the original, settling into the same position just like new glasses lenses fit an old frame.
No sutures are used and the whole procedure takes 10-15 minutes.
